A brief overview of the Whole30 diet

A brief overview of the Whole30 diet

The Whole30 diet is a popular diet that identifies foods that harm a person’s health and fitness. The focus of the program is to eliminate such items that are not good for the body, and it recommends that you eliminate them from your diet. It recommends eating healthy food with more vegetables, natural fats, and herbs. It also recommends avoiding getting on the weighing scale or undertaking any other body measurements until the end of 30 days. Focusing solely on the weight loss factor might lead you to overlook the other, long-term benefits of the diet.

Foods to eliminate
The Whole30 diet requires eliminating foods that disrupt blood sugar, lead to inflammation in the body, and damage the guts. You need to eliminate these foods for 30 days, after which some of these foods can be reintroduced into the diet based on your needs. Here are the foods that should be completely removed from your diet:

  • Sugar and its substitutes like honey, stevia, maple syrup, or artificial sweeteners. It is also important to check the ingredients of a food product as it may have sugar.
  • Alcohol should be completely avoided, even in cooking.
  • Legumes of all kinds, like peas, beans, chickpeas, peanuts, and lentils need to be completely given up. Even soy in any form must be left out from the diet.
  • All dairy products must be eliminated from the diet.
  • Baked and fried foods, and treats of any kind must be completely given up. Biscuits, bread, pasta, ice cream, and chips must all be given up.
  • Food products that have MSG or sulfites must be given up. It is recommended that any food with these ingredients is avoided.
  • All grains are to be avoided, including wheat, rice, rye, corn, sorghum, and such, and all gluten-free cereals.

As can be seen from the list, most of the food that we regularly eat needs to be eliminated. This makes the diet difficult and challenging, but it needs to be followed for 30 days. Once the body adjusts, some of these foods can be reintroduced into the diet.

There are also food items other than the ones listed here that also need to be avoided, and it is best for you to use your judgment and leave out food that you may be doubtful about.

Foods to eat
Here’s a list of what is permitted on the Whole30 diet:
